2018 – 2019 Provincial Budget

2018 – 2019 Provincial Budget: On Track

Today the Honourable Donna Harpauer, Minister of Finance, delivered the 2018–2019 Provincial Budget: On Track. In her Budget Address, Minister Harpauer affirmed that her government is on track to balance the budget by 2019, in part by keeping the economy strong.

SAA maintains that the arts and creative industries have an important role to play in strengthening our economy.

In general, budget estimates are status quo for the arts. The Support for Provincial Heritage and Culture line includes money for:

  • ArtsVest ($250,000) and Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum – both at the same levels as last year
  • The Canada-Saskatchewan Bilateral Agreement on Sport Participation which flows through to SaskSport.

The drop in the amount of money for Community Sport, Culture and Recreation Programs is related to the snowmobile program which is now with SGI. The remaining money supports the Western Canada Summer Games that will be held in 2019.

The Community Initiatives Fund is a forecast which is directly tied to gaming revenue.

Following are excerpts from the Parks, Culture, and Sport Estimates. Links to the budget documents can be found here.
