2010 Arts Congress Registration Open

Registration is now open for the 2010 Arts Congress: State of the Arts. The Congress will be held on May 7th & 8th at the Bassment in Saskatoon. Reflecting on the past, the 2010 Congress topics will focus on the current state of the arts and what lies ahead.
We are pleased to announce that internationally recognized arts and culture expert Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson will be featured on Friday afternoon. Jackson, a senior research associate and director of the Culture, Creativity and Communities Program at the Urban Institute in Washington DC will speak about cultural vitality.
Terrence Heath, one of Canada?s most distinguished curators and art historians, delivers the Friday evening address Reminiscences of the Future?
Well-known actor, director, educator, raconteur and scholar Henry Woolfe will give the luncheon address on Saturday.
The continuing series Conversations on Valuing the Arts presents Wynne Young, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport.
Following her address, Dr. Jackson is joined by panellists Peter Sametz, Associate Executive Director at the Saskatchewan Arts Board, and, from Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, Susan Hetu, Culture and Heritage Executive Director and Dwayne Baker, Senior Policy Analyst, Policy, Planning and Evaluation Branch in a discussion about arts indicators ? a timely topic given the release of Saskatchewan’s cultural policy and the province’s plan to develop measures as part of the implementation process.
Other Congress highlights include the popular Stories from the Art, in which artists tell the stories of their lives and work, and sessions with newly appointed Saskatchewan Arts Board Executive Director David Kyle, SaskCulture and the Arts Alliance. Panellists Vincent Varga, Executive Director & CEO of the Mendel Art Gallery, Laura Margita, artist and Executive Director of PAVED Arts, and Elwood Jimmy, artist and Program Director of Sâkêwêwak Artists? Collective weigh in on the state of the arts now.

There are a limited number of bursaries to assist Saskatchewan professional artists who live out-or-town with travel costs to attend the Congress. Bursary applications can also be found at Professional Artist Travel Bursary.
