Communications & Outreach Officer – Term Position

Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (SAA) is a non-profit organization that promotes the lively existence and continued growth of the arts in Saskatchewan. SAA is seeking a Communications and Outreach Officer to cover a maternity leave. This is a full-time term position from April 4, 2019 to April 10, 2020. The position is based in Regina, Saskatchewan. Job Description

The Communications and Outreach Officer supports the development, implementation and evaluation of communication and outreach strategies in support of SAA programs and services. The Officer reports to the Executive Director.

Position Summary: Under the authority of the Executive Director, the Communications & Outreach Officer is responsible for the communication and outreach functions of the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (SAA).

The Communications & Outreach Officer works within the policies and plans established by the SAA Board and as interpreted by the Executive Director. The position is responsible for the development and implementation of communications and outreach strategies that effectively support and promote SAA programs and services provided to increase understanding of and commitment to the arts.

Position Reports to: Executive Director

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

1.    Prepares and implements communication plans and strategies to meet the goals and objectives of SAA.

  • Develops and evaluates communication plans and initiatives designed to increase awareness of the arts sector and the programs and services of the SAA.
  • Coordinates development, writes, copy edits and produces the SAA Annual Report, bulletins, pamphlets and other documents as required.
  • Develops and disseminates public relations materials that increase SAA’s visibility.
  • Creates social media content and manages SAA web and digital media initiatives.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures related to communications are developed, maintained and evaluated.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of communications strategies and approaches in supporting the goals and objectives of SAA.
  • Monitors budgets to support work within functional area.

2.   Undertakes outreach plans that effectively support the organization's overall mandate and plans.

  • Develops, implements and evaluates outreach plans and programs designed to increase involvement of the membership and interested parties in SAA initiatives, and to increase SAA membership.
  • Builds and maintains professional liaison with SAA membership, stakeholders and interested parties in support of issues of mutual concern.
  • Provides membership with support services, including making presentations to members and groups as requested.
  • Plans, coordinates and implements SAA community meetings, forums and events including the Arts Congress.

3.   Other duties as assigned.

Must be able to develop innovative approaches for organization’s systems and processes. Must be willing to participate in the ongoing evolution required of an organization that values the arts sector while recognizing the importance of the past to inform the future.

Job Specific Competencies:

  • Verbal, Written & Social Media Communication: Must understand and be able to communicate clearly and concisely in all media and platforms, including press, web, social media and reports, and to a variety of audiences including speaking at large public forums.
  • Communications and Program Evaluation Functions: Must demonstrate communications competency skills including the ability to assess, analyze, prepare and evaluate communication strategies, programs and initiatives, as well as all relevant information.
  • Outreach and Program Evaluation Functions: Must be able to build and maintain relationships with a diversity of people, have the ability to prepare, deliver and evaluate outreach initiatives, and have superior presentation skills.
  • Computer Skills: Must be computer literate with a good working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software, digital media development; for example MS Office. Experience with InDesign and Photoshop Elements would be an asset.
  • Budget & Planning: Must have knowledge of and skills in budget monitoring.

The position requires some evening and weekend work.

Some travel is involved.

A valid driver’s license is required.

Salary Scale

Annual full-time equivalent (35 hrs/week): $32,760 – $40,040.
