CALL TO ACTION
Summer is upon us and MLAs are back in their home ridings. While there, Premier Wall charged MLAs to consult with their constituents and community groups about Saskatchewan’s future and how best to meet the challenges of growth and opportunity. Premier Wall wants to find out about what government's long-term goals should be, how to achieve the goals, and what measures to take now.
This is the perfect opportunity to speak up for the arts with your MLA. Talk about the importance of the arts to you, your family and the quality of life in Saskatchewan. You might find this information on how the arts impacts community helpful: The Arts and Our Quality of Life, The Numbers Tell the Story.
THE ARTS ECOLOGY OF SASKATCHEWAN
SAA is embarking on a research project to study the Saskatchewan arts ecology. We want to better understand how community arts, arts education, fine arts, and the creative industries are interconnected, if they are indeed part of a continuum. We also want to understand how individual artists fit into that continuum and the extent to which lack of support in one area weakens the whole arts ecology and the capacity of individual artists to pursue their art.
The study will lead to a better understanding of the contribution the arts make to the sustainability of our current economic growth and the sustainability of various art forms in our province as well as the cultural fabric of our communities.
The first step of the project is compiling an Artist Registry . If you are an artist living in Saskatchewan, and are 18 years and older, please sign in to our Artist Registry. Why? To help us with our research projects. We are inviting all artists, a vocational to professional, to register.
The registry will be kept confidential, for SAA arts research purposes only. You might be contacted to participate in one of our research projects.
SAA believes that research on the Saskatchewan arts sector is important to helping us advance the arts in Saskatchewan. By registering your name, you will help strengthen our work. To Register.
CANADIAN CONFERENCE OF THE ARTS VOWS TO LIVE ON
Canada’s oldest and largest arts advocacy organization, the Canadian Conference of the Arts, has decided to keep functioning, until mid-October at least, even as the Harper government has announced it is ending a 47-year tradition of federal support from Liberal and Conservative administrations for the organization. FOCUS GROUP LOOKS AT ARTS LITERACY THROUGHOUT PROVINCE
The Saskatchewan Arts Alliance conducted a focus group with representatives from the Art Gallery of Swift Current, CARFAC SASK, the Ministry of Education, the Saskatchewan Arts Board, and the Saskatchewan Choral Federation. This focus group explored the concept of arts literacy in terms of public funding and engagement and explored possible barriers facing arts literacy. Please contact the SAA with any ideas or recommendations to address arts literacy.
SAA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND COMMUNITY FORUM
Everyone is invited to attend the Community Forum and Annual General Meeting. This is an ideal opportunity to meet with colleagues and help the Board of Directors shape the SAA’s future initiatives. We will hear your input on From Policy to Action: A proposal for the arts sector.

2012 ARTS CONGRESS: MATTERS OF ENGAGEMENT SUMMARY
With over one hundred people in attendance, the 2012 Arts Congress touched on current issues facing Saskatchewan’s arts community; these issues included arts literacy, currency, funding, and engagement.
