SASKATCHEWAN ARTS ALLIANCE MEETS WITH MEMBERS
The Saskatchewan Arts Alliance was on the road in May and met with arts organizations in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, and Prince Albert. The SAA holds community Forums, advocacy workshops, and button bees throughout the province. By meeting people who make arts and culture happen in Saskatchewan, we get a clearer picture of where we should be focusing our efforts, we learn about the challenges and successes in each community. If interested, please contact our Communications and Outreach Officer Jessica Riess at 306.780.9820 or outreach@artsalliance.sk.ca.
A SHORT HISTORY AND SELF-JUSTIFICATION OF A WORKING ARTIST
Check out the latest SAA blog, A Short History and Self-Justification of a Working Artist written by visual artist and arts educator Twyla Exner: “Attending to all the issues we face as communities does not depend on the impoverishment of the arts. On the contrary, we can argue that the myriad of benefits the arts have on creating healthy communities make the arts all the more important.”
ARTSVEST EXTENDED FOR TWO MORE YEARS
On May 27th, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Kevin Doherty, accompanied by Business for the Arts, artsVest national program manager Laura Adlers, announced an agreement has been reached on a two-year extension of artsVest™ program in Saskatchewan. For more information, view the official press release.
RITCHIES AUCTION HOUSE TO PAY ARTIST'S RESALE RIGHT
The auction house Ritchies has announced that they will voluntarily pay the Artist's Resale Right beginning with the inaugural Project Contemporalis auction this month. They are the first major auction house in Canada to do so.
“Auction houses have been profiting from the works of great Canadian artists without giving anything back for far too long,” said Gordon Gothreau, head of Ritchie's contemporary art department. “Canada must do more to protect its artists – granting artists resale rights is the first step on a long road.”
CARFAC and RAAV are still hopeful that the government will bring the Artist's Resale Right to Canada through legislation that would apply to all art market professionals. For more information.

Be part of the conversation! Help the Canada Council improve the Arts Inter-Arts Office programs. Take part in the online consultation from May 1 to July 30, 2013.
The two questions:
- How to make the Inter-Arts Office suite of programs more flexible, responsive, meaningful, impactful and measurable, especially the Grants to Organizations program?
- What are some of the key issues and opportunities facing the inter-arts sector in the context of the changing environment?
Key consultation findings will be published in the fall of 2013. The results will inform program changes scheduled for the fall of 2014.
