SAA LAUNCHES TWO ONLINE RESOURCES OF THE ARTS
The SAA is excited to announce the launch of two online resources:
- The website Resources for Artists and Engagers in Saskatchewan contains information and resources to assist artists, arts professionals, businesses, and organizations in an easy to use format. Information includes a wide range of topics for a multitude of disciplines from copyright, contracts and best practices to health and safety.
- A Status of the Artist Developmental Timeline where the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance has compiled efforts of governments, societies, organizations and artists from around the world to support status of the artist issues. “Status of the Artist” is the historical title for the concept; however the issue is better understood to be one of “equity” or parity for artists.
2014 CULTURE DAYS FUNDING ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS NOW AVAILABLE
SaskCulture has moved their Culture Days funding earlier in the year. The new deadline is April 15th. There are two levels of Culture Days Funding through SaskCulture: cultural Hubs are eligible for project expenses to a maximum of $5,000, and activities presented by one organization support eligible project expenses to a maximum of $1,000. ARTS ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT COURSE – DEADLINE MARCH 20
Applications are now being accepted for the Arts Entrepreneurship and Business Development Course. This course assists Saskatchewan artists and arts entrepreneurs to develop sustainable careers or business ventures in the province. It is offered by the Saskatchewan Arts Board in partnership with Creative Saskatchewan and Ideas Inc.
CALL FOR PRESENTERS FOR BANFF CENTRE ARTS SUMMIT CONVERGENCE
The Banff Centre is seeking national and international presenters on subjects related to interdisciplinary arts practices that engage with digital arts for presentation at Convergence, an arts summit dedicated to exploring the ways that arts practices intersect with each other and with technology in a complex physical and social ecology. ARTS 308 BRINGS THE COALITION’S MESSAGES INTO THE RIDINGS
Between the launch of the Arts 308 toolkit on October 24th and the return of parliamentarians to the House of Commons, on January 27th, 122 Members or Parliament have heard the Coalition’s messages either via a tweet, a letter or in a meeting in their riding. The SAA would like to thank those who contacted their MLAs to advocate on behalf of the arts.
CANADA COUNCIL PROGRAM CHANGES TO BE ANNOUNCED IN SPRING 2014
The Canada Council published the What We Heard report in October 2013, which summarized findings from the 2013 Inter-Arts Office consultation. This consultation forms the basis of program changes which will be announced later in 2014.
CANADA COUNCIL SPEAKS ON FEDERAL BUDGET
“The Canada Council for the Arts is delighted at the announcement of $25 million in ongoing support to the Council in the 2014 budget,” said Council Chair, Joseph L. Rotman. “This is a strong vote of confidence by the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, the Honourable Shelly Glover, and demonstrates her Government’s commitment to arts and culture, a major contributor to the economy and identity of this country.”

SÂKÊWÊWAK ARTISTS’ COLLECTIVE SEEKS PROGRAMMING DIRECTOR: DEADLINE EXTENDED
Sâkêwêwak Artists’ Collective seeks a Programming Director. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, the Director of Programming will be responsible for facilitating the short-term and long-term programming objectives of the organization. CURTAIN RAZORS PRESENTs WHERE THE THUNDERBIRD LIVES
Where the Thunderbird Lives is a new performance featuring Bracken Hanuse Corlett, Cstekwe Fortier, Dean Hunt, and Michele Sereda. It is a fusion of beats, mash up, poetry, song, video, and spoken word connecting the Thunderbird from Southern Saskatchewan with the Thunderbird stories and images from the West Coast of British Columbia.
