NEWS FROM THE SASKATCHEWAN ARTS BOARD
Saskatchewan Arts Board Chair Pamella Acton announced that the agency’s board of directors has accepted the resignation of CEO David Kyle, effective immediately. “We thank David for his contributions, dedication and passion for the arts,” says Acton. “We wish David all the best in the next phase of his career.” Jeremy Morgan will serve as interim CEO while the board of directors conducts a nation-wide search for a new CEO. CREATIVE SASKATCHEWAN WELCOMES NEW BOARD MEMBER
On December 31, 2014, Creative Saskatchewan announced the Appointment of Patricia Warsaba to its Board of Directors. Warsaba is a commercial and corporate lawyer at McKercher LLP in Regina. She was selected from a list of nominees provided to the Minister by the organization’s nominations committee, which consists of representatives from the Creative Industry Association, Creative Saskatchewan, and the Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport. FEDERAL BUDGET ANALYSIS PROVIDES THOROUGH OVERVIEW OF YEAR 2014
The Canadian Conference of the Arts, Canadian Arts Coalition and Saskatchewan Arts Alliance published the analysis of the 2014 Federal Budget which examines federal funding for the arts and culture sector over the whole 2014 calendar year.
While overall funding levels remained relatively steady compared to last fiscal year, the roll out of funding cuts announced in 2012 continues to have an impact on the sector, including at the CBC. The good news is that the government made permanent a few existing funding commitments. There is also hope that, with a balanced budget in 2015 and celebrations in 2017, the government will invest in the sector. Read more.
NEW YORK ARTIST RESIDENCY AVAILBLE TO SASKATCHEWAN ARTIST
Sponsored by Creative Saskatchewan and the MacKenzie Art Gallery, this pilot residency will sponsor one Saskatchewan artist or independent curator to participate in a fully funded three-month residency at the International Studio & Curatorial Program (ISCP) in Brooklyn, New York, in the spring of 2015.
