SLOGAN BRAINSTORM: THE SEQUEL!
The Arts Live Here and it’s time for a refresh. We need a new advocacy slogan and we want you to write it! Dazzle us with your inspiring idea and we’ll spread the word far and wide. The SAA provides a common forum and front for arts organizations and artists in Saskatchewan: join in the slogan brainstorm.
The brainstorm will continue till the end of November and we’ll launch our new slogan(s) in the New Year. Here’s how: post your ideas on this event page. CANADA-EU COMMERCIAL AND ECONOMIC TRADE AGREEMENT (CETA) INCLUDES A CULTURAL EXEMPTION CLAUSE
The Coalition for Cultural Diversity calls the new cultural exemption clause in the text of the Canada-EU Commercial and Economic Trade Agreement (CETA), “a historical agreement.” In effect, governments in Canada have preserved their capacity to support cultural industries as defined in all trade agreements signed by our country since NAFTA.

The protection and promotion of the diversity of cultural expressions is an explicit objective, laid out in a coherent and precise manner.” — Charles Vallerand, Directeur général, Coalition pour la diversité culturelle. STRETCH TAX CREDIT – WHERE ARE WE NOW? In January 2012, the Performing Arts Alliance submitted a brief to the Standing Committee on Finance in support of Imagine Canada’s proposed Stretch Tax Credit to increase charitable giving in the performing arts. More than two years later, this recommendation is still making headway.
With a balanced budget now in sight for 2015, the time could be ripe for the introduction of the Stretch Tax Credit. Imagine Canada is running a campaign to reach as many MPs as possible before the end of the pre-budget consultations, in mid-December. If you have any opportunity to talk to your MP or if you want to send them an email or a tweet, check Imagine Canada’s toolkit and call to action.

GOVERNOR GENERAL’S LITERARY AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED NOVEMBER 18

CARFAC SASK HONOURS THREE OUTSTANDING VISUAL ARTISTS
On November 15, CARFAC SASK recognized three outstanding individuals at the 4th biennial Visual Arts Awards Ceremony and Reception. Jack Cowin was honoured posthumously with the Patrick Close Leadership in the Arts Award, David Garneau with the Mentoring Award, and Catherine Blackburn with the Emerging Artist Award. This year, the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative is excited to present the Saskatchewan Independent Film Awards at its 2014 Premiere Screening. Nominated films at the Premiere Screening will be eligible for 3 awards: Best Independent Saskatchewan Film – Jury’s Choice, Best Student Film, and Audience Choice. The event will take place at The Artesian on 13th, 2627 13th Ave, Regina.
