Saskatchewan Arts Alliance Seeks Arts Congress Coordinator
The Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (SAA) is seeking to contract an Arts Congress Coordinator to organize the 2016 Arts Congress. The Coordinator will work closely with the Arts Congress Organizing Committee and SAA staff to organize the Congress including preparation of conference materials, schedule, delivery, and marketing. The Arts Congress, a major program of the SAA, brings the arts community together to discuss arts matters and celebrate the arts. The 2016 Arts Congress will be held on May 6th and 7th in Regina.

SAA Asks Big Question to Arts Organizations
This year, SAA is asking one big question: How is the World Different because your organization exists?
Personal stories can help with our advocacy efforts. Click here for an inspiring example from the Saskatchewan Festival of Words.
You can be specific and/or expansive. You can be very local to international. It needn’t be very long. We are looking for examples of the various, important impacts our members have. If you would like to participate, talk to Ian research@artsalliance.sk.ca.
SPAR (Saskatchewan Partnership for Arts Research) continues to be active this fall
SPAR (Saskatchewan Partnership for Arts Research) continues to be active this fall. The project is conducting focus groups of artists and the public around the province. Our first focus group dealt specifically with newcomer artists and was generously organized by SPAR’s Community of Understanding members at the City of Saskatoon, with support from the Saskatchewan Arts Board. In October, SPAR presented the paper Understanding the Role of Cultural Networks within a Creative Ecosystem: A Canadian Case-Study at the ENCATC (European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centres) Annual Conference, entitled “The Ecology of Culture: Community Engagement, Co-creation, Cross Fertilization,” in Lecce, Italy. SPAR’s presentation Cultivating a Creative Ecology from the Artists’ Perspective: Evidence from Saskatchewan was well-received at the Creative City Network of Canada 2015 Creative City Summit in Kelowna, BC.

Arts Funders Welcome Federal Government Commitment to Invest In Arts and Culture
Yellowknife, November 17, 2015 – Representatives of arts councils and equivalent public arts funders from across Canada met in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, from November 11-13, 2015, on the occasion of the Canadian Public Arts Funders (CPAF) 11th Annual General Meeting.
CPAF welcomed the public release of the mandate letter from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to new Minister of Canadian Heritage Mélanie Joly on November 13. The letter outlines the federal government’s priorities to provide significant new support to Canadian arts and culture. Read More.

The Saskatchewan Media Production Industry Association (SMPIA), in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative, Yorkton Film Festival, Creative Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Science Centre, is excited to celebrate Saskatchewan’s film and television industries with a week of film-related activities. Reminder: You’re invited to the artsVest Saskatchewan 2015-16 workshops!
artsVest Saskatchewan is a matching incentive and sponsorship training program created by Business for the Arts to spark corporate engagement in arts and heritage and build strong ties between public, private and cultural sectors.
This year, the program will continue to provide small and mid-sized organizations with an annual budget of less than $1.5 million free sponsorship training and a total of $330,000 in matching incentive grants. Combined with sponsorships of equal or greater value from local businesses, this will translate to an influx of over $660,000 into Saskatchewan’s creative economy this year alone. Community Initiatives Fund: Call for Adjudication Committee Applications
The Community Initiatives Fund is inviting applications from individuals throughout Saskatchewan who are interested in serving on one of its four Adjudication Committees.
The Adjudication Committees will be responsible for reviewing applications to the Community Grant Program and making grant recommendations to the CIF Board of Directors. The Northern, Central and South committees will review applications for projects within those regional areas, while the Provincial committee will review applications for projects that occur in more than one region or that involve participation from throughout Saskatchewan.
