The Saskatchewan arts community came together on Saturday, September 24th, in a productive meeting with the Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (SAA). SAA Meets with New Minister of Parks, Culture, and Sport
On behalf of its membership, SAA met with the Honourable Ken Cheveldayoff, Minister of Parks, Culture, and Sport. President Kelley Jo Burke, fellow board member Dr. Kathryn Ricketts, and Executive Director Marnie Gladwell emphasized the value of the arts to the province, the importance of arts organizations and the pressures they face, as well as SAA’s four key points.
When asked what our members should know about the new minister, Hon. Cheveldayoff asked that people be understanding. While ideas will be given the attention they need, dollars are tight. Government sees arts as an investment and it understands the return on that investment both on quality of life and the economy. He will go to bat for us.

Recipients of the 2016 Saskatchewan Arts Awards
The Saskatchewan Arts Board announced the recipients of the 2016 Saskatchewan Arts Awards. Congratulations to the Nominees and recipients of the 2016 awards! Recipients were awarded a limited-edition sculpture by Saskatchewan artist Jody Greenman-Barber and a cash prize:
- Lieutenant Governor’s Lifetime Achievement Award: Robin Poitras, Regina
- Artistic Excellence Award: Lori Blondeau, Saskatoon
- Emerging Artist Award: Rosie & the Riveters, Saskatoon
- Leadership—Individual Award: Karen Schoonover, Regina
- Leadership—Organization Award: Yorkton Film Festival, Yorkton
- Arts and Learning Award: Wendy Peart, Regina
Three members of the community were given Honorary Saskatchewan Arts Awards for their longstanding contributions to the arts in Saskatchewan: Jacqui Shumiatcher, Eva Mendel Miller and Her Honour, the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.
CIF: Call for Adjudication Committee Applications
The Community Initiatives Fund is inviting applications from individuals throughout Saskatchewan who are interested in serving on one of their four Adjudication Committees. The Adjudication Committees will be responsible for reviewing applications to the Community Grant Program and making grant recommendations to the CIF Board of Directors. Find the details here.
Canada Council for the Arts Accepting Applications: Board of Directors
Applications are being accepted for the position of board member for the Canada Council for the Arts. As stewards of the organization, members of the Board are responsible for the ongoing governance of the organization. Candidates must apply online by October 31, 2016.Read more.

The reach of the consultations is broad across the sector, including information and entertainment content as presented in television, radio, film, digital media and platforms, video games, music, books, newspapers and magazines.
