Status of the Artist
In the development of arts and cultural policy in Canada issues of artists’ access to social and economic benefits and the achievement of equality with other workers have been critical. “Status of the Artist” is the historical title for the concept, however the issue is better understood to be one of “equity” or parity for artists.
Governments, societies, organizations and artists around the world have collaborated to effect social, regulatory and legislative changes. Many provincial, national and international arts and cultural organizations have become advocates for action in support of status of the artist issues.
The Saskatchewan Arts Alliance has compiled these efforts into this informational research site in the form of a developmental timeline.
