Keynote Address: Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson
Planning for Culturally Vital Communities: Key Concepts and Metrics
What is cultural vitality? Why does it matter? How do you measure it? What does it take to plan for communities that are culturally vital? Based on research and planning experience around the United States, these questions are discussed.

Joining Dr. Jackson in a discussion about measuring the arts are Gary Young, Director of the Gordon Snelgrove Gallery, Peter Sametz, Associate Executive Directors at the Saskatchewan Arts Board, and, from Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport, Susan Hetu, Culture and Heritage Executive Director and Dwayne Baker, Senior Policy Analyst, Policy, Planning and Evaluation Branch.

SaskCulture’s Support of the Arts
Peter England, President, and Rose Gilks, General Manager provide an overview of how SaskCulture supports the arts in Saskatchewan directly and through partnerships with agencies such as the Saskatchewan Arts Board. Delegates are invited to provide advice on SaskCulture’s work.

Keynote Address: Terrence Heath
Reminiscences of the Future?
Terrence Heath is an independent writer, curator and consultant. He has curated, reviewed, and written catalogue essays for exhibitions at art galleries across Canada. He was Executive-Director of the Western Development Museum and Director of the Winnipeg Art Gallery and writes both articles and columns for art magazines in Canada. He has most recently organized a retrospective exhibition of the works and completed a biography of the Canadian sculptor, Joe Fafard.
He is a co-founder and presently on the board of the Centre for Canadian Contemporary Art and was chair of the governing board of the Ontario College of Art for six years (1993-1999). He served on the taskforce of the City of Toronto which re-established the Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art (formerly, North York Art Gallery) in Toronto. He has written a number of books, including two novels, a biography of the Canadian painter, Ernest Lindner, and four books of poetry (three of which were co-authored with Anne Szumigalski). His short stories and poems appear regularly in various literary magazines. Born and raised in Saskatchewan, he presently lives in Toronto.

Luncheon Speaker: Henry Woolf
Art is a Big Word
Henry Woolf has worked as an actor on stage, in radio, and film as well as being a director, educator, raconteur and scholar. Henry Woolf became head of the University of Saskatchewan Drama Department in 1997. He was a founding member of the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival and was artistic director there from 1991 to 2001. This year, he returns to play Shylock. As well, this year Woolf’s poems will be included in a poetry anthology published in the UK.
