Report of the Federal Task Force on the Status of the Artist ( Siren-Gelinas Report

On May 7, 1986, the former Minister of Communications, the

Honourable Marcel Masse, established the Task Force on the Status

of the Artist.

The mandate of the Task Force was to undertake broad consul-

tations with the Canadian artistic profession and to develop an

action plan which would result in improved conditions for Canadian

artists working in all disciplines. Due to the urgency attributed

to this issue by the Minister, the Task Force was asked to

complete its studies within six weeks.

The fulfilment of this mandate would have been impossible

without the enthusiastic participation of Canadian artists and

their organizations, and the strong commitment of the Government

of Canada to the principles of the Belgrade Convention on the

Status of the Artist.
